RHS Garden Wisley Partnership Commission – Rowan Hoaglin

RHS Garden Wisley Partnership Commission
The 2021 RHS Garden Wisley Partnership Commission has been awarded to Rowan Hoaglin.

About The Commission
We are proud to offer a partnership commission with RHS Garden Wisley, which aims to help artists foster connections with our cultural partners across the county of Surrey.
The 2021 RHS Garden Wisley Commission awardee is Rowan Hoaglin.
Rowan explores complex themes in prose and poetry, which they often combine with other mediums such as watercolour painting. Inspired by their time with RHS Garden Wisley, Rowan has written a collection of poems which have been installed at various locations around the grounds.
You can read about Rowan’s experience over the commission year in their blog here

“I’ve been with Creative Response for several years, and it’s helped me to develop my art and writing in a group for neurodivergent and disabled people. I’ve also had some of my poems included in Jackie Wills Regrowth Poetry Anthology under my pseudonym, Rowan.
I’ve also had projects included in several Creative Responses summer exhibitions.
I also love gardening, I spend a couple of days a week helping my Grandad tend to his garden and I’ve spent a lot of time visiting Wisley over the years. A lot of my work focuses on nature and emotional connections to it.”
About RHS Garden Wisley
Wisley is the flagship garden of the RHS and one of the UK’s most visited and best-loved gardens, attracting around one million visitors each year. Some 75 garden staff, 25 students, four apprentices and 100 volunteers help make a day at Wisley an amazing experience for our visitors.
