DEADLINE: Sunday 20th August

DAiSY has been partnering with Watts Gallery for the past few years and will once again be offering a Surrey-based, Disabled Artist a residency this Autumn.

We are looking for artists who identify as d/Deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent, who live, have a base, or work regularly in Surrey, and who are keen for support to progress their artistic development either personally or professionally. The programme will support artists to develop their practice by offering mentoring from an industry professional and foster connections with our cultural partners across the county.

About The Commission

During the DAiSY residency Watts Gallery will be exhibiting a collection of Brian May’s archive of Stereoscopy in their Victorian Virtual Reality exhibition and we are keen for the Artist in residence to respond to this exhibition:

We are open to artists applying from any art form, but feel that there is a particular opportunity for artists to respond to this exhibition via photography or digital formats and/or who are interested in exploring animation or multimedia artworks.

This residency is primarily designed to help develop the chosen artist’s own practice. Although there is no requirement to produce final artwork or an exhibition, there may be opportunities for Watts Gallery and DAiSY to promote your work on-site and/or via their online platforms, if appropriate and desired by the artist.

About Watts Gallery

Founded in 1904 as the only gallery in the UK devoted to a single artist, Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village offers a unique insight into the life and work of ‘England’s Michelangelo’ George Frederic Watts and the designer and artist Mary Watts.

The Commission Offer

The commission offer includes from DAiSY:

  • DAISY will offer the selected artist one-to-one sessions with a professional artist mentor relevant to their  practice and medium throughout the residency.
  • A bursary of £1000 will be paid to the chosen artist to pay for materials and other expenses incurred during the residency. This can be paid to you in monthly instalments or however is deemed most appropriate.

From Watts Gallery:

  • The chosen artist will be offered free entry during the period of their residency for themselves plus a companion, carer or support worker.
  • A fully accessible Artist Studio for two weeks in the grounds of the Gallery
